Updates to Vehicle Standards Guides

Effective from 1 July 2018

As you may be aware, there are a number of updates to the Heavy Vehicle (Vehicle Standards) National Regulation that are due to come into effect from 1 July 2018.

As a result of these changes, the NHVR has taken this opportunity to update the associated Vehicle Standards Guides.

Help shape the future of Heavy Vehicle training

PwC's Skills for Australia is undertaking a review several Automotive qualifications and seeks your industry input to ensure training package changes help to build the right skills to match job needs. CVIAA encourages Members to attend Focus Group 5, which is for proposed updates to Heavy Vehicle AUR and AUM training packages. There's no need to travel; this 90 minute session is accessed via teleconference.

NHVR supports coordinated compliance effort

The NHVR has welcomed state road transport agencies delivering a coordinated compliance focus this week to focus on fatigue and vehicle roadworthiness.

“Assisting drivers and operators to better manage fatigue and vehicle roadworthiness has been a significant part of the NHVR’s safety program in recent months.”, said NHVR Regulatory Compliance and Assurance Director, Tony Martin.

Circular 0-1-3 Safety Chain Connection Devices

Selecting an appropriate safety chain connection device for a road trailer of up to 3,500 kg ATM

The purpose of the Circular is to provide assistance for owners and operators in selecting an appropriate safety chain connection device for a road trailer of up to 3,500 kg ATM. It was developed with the agreement of state and territory regulators in order to provide a uniform approach in Australia to the use of safety connection devices.

Published: Version 3 of Vehicle Standards Bulletin (VSB) 6: National Code of Practice for Heavy Vehicle Modifications

NHVR to implement the revised standard nationally from 1 September 2017

The NHVR has advised that the revised version of Vehicle Standards Bulletin (VSB) 6: National Code of Practice for Heavy Vehicle Modifications (version 3), has been published.

The revision of VSB6 has been a significant project for the NHVR and the VSB6 Working Group, having taken 2 years to complete. NHVR will now commence work to implement the revised standard nationally from 1 September 2017.

The revised standard, along with supporting information, is now available from the NHVRs website at
