Delay to commencement of the Road Vehicle Standards Legislation

Originally scheduled for 10 December 2019, it is agreed more time is needed to fully understand the end-to-end process under the new regulatory structure.

Following strong lobbying by CVIAA and CVIAV, along with other industry stakeholders, the government has decided to push back the commencement date of the Road Vehicle Standards (RVS) legislation.

Originally scheduled for 10 December 2019, it is agreed more time is needed to fully understand the end-to-end process under the new regulatory structure.  This additional time will also allow industry and governments the chance to properly consider, plan and prepare for a smooth implementation.

The revised implementation date is currently unknown as the amended legislation needs to pass both houses of Parliament.  It is expected to be introduced to Parliament later this week.  The government will then seek to set a new commencement date in consultation with all relevant industry sectors.
